Congratulations to Mikey who entered the name Harlie! RoboChick is dead chuffed, she's all squealy about. It's cute. Then she shot a dinosaur in the face. That wasn't so cute. Also... More Avril!

With only weeks to go until the release of Jailbreak: Source 0.6, we're bringing you another gameplay trailer showing footage from the new gamemode Deathball and one of the four new maps, db_arroyo!

Deathball is simple, keep the ball in, keep the enemy in. If you find yourself dead and locked up, just hit the release button and run straight out... Unless the ball is in your goal, in which case... Watch out for the ducks. No really. Pro-tip: Chainguns are rather efficient ball propellants. Your face is not.

Download the video in 720p! Or check it out on Youtube!

We're almost finished. Seriously this time! To prove, here is the first gameplay trailer for Jailbreak: Source 0.6. This shows off a round of gameplay for the new gamemode, King of the Hill!

KOTH is simple, take the hill to lock the enemy jail. Keep control of the hill, keep the enemy in! Enemy players can escape whilst the hill is held, so make sure they don't! Jailbreak: Source 0.6 will be released very soon!

Make sure to join our Facebook and Twitter groups, to get exclusive information and content not available elsewhere.

Mosey on over to ModDB this morning and you'll find two video interviews on the front page, where myself and Laura wax lyrical about Jailbreak: Source 0.6, modding, the future of Jailbreak, inspirations and other fascinating facts. Alternatively, if you're lazy, you can just click the play button below!

It's worth noting that the interviews were both conducted several months ago, and significant progress towards finishing 0.6 has been made since.

Big, big thanks to Noesis Interactive for seeking us out and organising the whole thing, and doing an absolutely superb job of editing it!

King of the Hill Jailbreak is the second game mode to be added to the next release of Jailbreak: Source, and its mega-fun! The game play is simple: Take the hill to lock the enemy jail.

You can also see images of the new Rocket Launcher, and the updated Medigun which now locks-on to the nearest target. We've also implemented soft-body collisions like in TF2, so escapees no longer get stuck on each in ventilation shafts!

The game mode itself has been around for years, and appeared in many different games and mods, but it was one of our community members, Guessmyname who integrated into his map, koth_thrones who brought it to Jailbreak!

Thank you to everyone for being so patient over the last few months as we've gradually rebuilt Jailbreak from scratch after the crash-tastrostrophe that occured just TWO DAYS before we planned to release Jailbreak 0.5. Now you'll just have to hang on a little bit longer whilst we finish polishing up and implementing the final features!

We like ModDB. Apparently they like us too. So they invited us along for a chinwag about the next release of Jailbreak: Source around 5 weeks ago! Once the backlog of other Dev Banter's had cleared, they posted ours, and here it is!

Urgh, I laugh at my own jokes far too often. And boy do I breathe heavily into my mic! Poor Henley must have had quiet the time noise gating that!

Anyways! Don't forget to check out the Jailbreak Dev Blog too, we've been writing loads of tutorials for modders to get their teeth into, including character modelling, coding and mapping, so get on over and check it out!

Happy Jailbreaking!

Yep, we've started a development blog, but it's not full of e-drama about what it's like to be a Mod Developer in a cruel, cold and lonely world. No, it's much more than that. It's like, a place where you can learn stuff! Wow!

It's not for the faint hearted either, this is hardcore stuff. We're going to be divulging the deepest darkest secrets of modding, including the holy grail of modding... Explaining how to code stuff! Holy f**king shit!

There's also going to be things like, how to model in XSI, how to UV Map, how to create and import new textures created in Photoshop into your HL2 Map or Mod! This is like, a full on, no holds barred, expose of modding, think of us like Heat Magazine, except with less tits.

Oh, and I nearly forgot, we'll be giving regular and detailed updates on the development of Jailbreak too. Including beta testing reports and all sorts so you can see for yourself how we're progressing. It's the shizzle.

If you fancy reading it, check it out by clicking the link above!

Last week we had the pleasure of being interviewed by the guys behind the rather fantastic Podcast 17! Myself and Dogmeat were guests throughout the show and chimed in where we could, and towards the half-way point we were grilled by the presenters about the future of Jailbreak: Source and the (not quite so anymore) upcoming release of the mod!

Next week, we're recording with the guys from ModDB for Dev Banter, so look forward to more shinanigans from the dynamic, dangerous and devilish duo of Wills and Dogmeat then!

Tis with a heavy heart this day, I bring you frustrating news. During the last two weeks we've been testing the release candidate for Jailbreak: Source 0.5. Some of you will have likely seen us doing this over the past few weeks, going past Dev 29 and onto RC1 and then RC2.

Our intention was to release Jailbreak 0.5, on Thursday of last week. Sadly however, as does sometimes happen we've come to a grinding halt. A screeching, metal bending, grinding halt.

Unfortunately, somewhere along the line, we've created a significant crash bug. The bug itself causes waves of clients to crash out at the same time, a crash which we alluded to on last weeks Podcast 17. The really shitty bit, is that the many, many crash dumps we've generated trying to solve this bug are useless and point to an area of code that we simply haven't touched, or even gone near.

As such, this situation brought us to a crossroads. Do we:

- Release the mod in it's current state, creating waves of angry post-crash players bearing flaming torches?
- Deconstruct the mod, piece by piece, until it's stable again, and then put everything back in, piece by piece until we figure it out?
- Or... Port the whole mod to the Orange Box, recoding significant elements, adding particles, new effects, another map and extra models!

Unsurprisingly, we've decided to take the forward step, and port Jailbreak 0.5 to the Orange Box. This is something we intended to start doing as soon as 0.5 was released, but instead of faffing about, we've started doing it already!

We're hoping to crank out the Orange Box port fairly quickly, but there's a fair bit to do so bear with us. To help with the transition, we're going to be publishing a development blog, designed as kind of mini tutorials, showing you guys our progress and hopefully imparting some of our knowledge and helping you to avoid any pitfalls along the way!

We truly appreciate the support our community gives us and we hate to let you guys down. But fear not... The next release of Jailbreak IS coming, and it WILL be awesome! In the mean time, why not join our beta testing team and get an early taster? We've got a few spots opening up very soon!

We love listening to you guys, and we're always watching what you're up to, so when Nyght, one of our most loyal fans, released a custom map for Jailbreak: Source and claimed that he'd made a whole new gamemode out of it, we paid attention. The whole team got together and had a play, and that evening we decided that Nyght's map, jbo_pong HAD to be adapted into the new gamemode for Jailbreak: Source 0.5.

So, we took his concept, created a whole new map, fiddled with a few things here and there, and today we announce... DEATHBALL! Check out the trailer and pictures below to see what it's all about!

The concept of Deathball is simple, when the ball is in the goal, the enemy jail is locked. So keep the ball in the goal, and kill off the enemy team! If the ball is out of the goal, the enemy can let themselves straight out! And if the ball is in your goal, you best get it out quick, otherwise you're going to very rapidly find yourself on your own, or vapourised!

The best bit is, the more you get killed, the more points you get, as you're always escaping! So by round two, most players have Level 3 perks and everyone's Stealth/Double Jumping all over the pitch!

There's just so much that we're bursting to show you, that I thought I'd release ten screenshots this week! So below you can find shots from Plague, Woodneck, Madesco and Iridium! You can also see the new Dinosaur, and some new executions (read below the pics to find out about the new execution method!).

Next time, we'll be revealing the biggest, and coolest change to Jailbreak yet... Yes, even bigger than the Dinosaurs. Not long now...

news post image news post image
news post image news post image

As you can see above, we've created two new types of execution for the next release... Firstly, we've upped the style of the normal executions, with multiple cameras now allowing more cinematic moments! Such as the missile execution in Madesco...

Secondly, we've added a new execution method, which we call The British Bulldog Execution; allowing the winners to get hands-on! For example, in Woodneck, the losers spawn inside a Weather Testing funnel, and the winners get to choose how to execute them, either by Tornado, Electrical Storm, Lasers or all three! We've redone all the executions for 0.5, with added style and hilarity, so make sure you check them out!

If you've got a keen eye, you'll see there's one screenshot showing the new Automatic Shotgun. Devastating at close range, near useless at long range, this is one of the most fun additions to the next release. You can also see shots of the new turrets!

Finally, a little feature info for you! We've implemented an all new Weapon Selection system, to stop weapon hogging. Now, you have six slots, for each different weapon type. If you have a Rifle, and come across a Shotgun, you simply press X to swap them over! Couldn't be easier!

No, we weren't joking! There really are Dinosaurs and Robots in Jailbreak: Source 0.5, and you can check them out below! We've also got pictures of the first new map, made by IZaNaGI and called Mizraim. As you can see, we've also updated our website today to celebrate the start of the countdown towards release!

We're slowly gearing up to release the next version of Jailbreak, and we can't wait to show off more of the cool stuff we've got in store for you over the next few weeks, including many new features... But one of the coolest things about the next release, is that it is a Total Conversion!

Posted by Wills on October 15, 2008 | Comments [26]

For the next release of Jailbreak 0.5, IZaNaGI and myself have been working on a collaboration map. We won't be revealing anything else about the map however, until nearer the release of 0.5, but it's going to be really rather cool, and will be entering the beta testing phase in a few weeks or so, depending on how it goes!

As you guys know, the Jailbreak team take community input very seriously, and we like you guys to get involved as much as possible, as such, we're giving you the opportunity to get your mug in the game!

So... if you'd like to appear in this map, all you need to do is take a full length picture of yourself and post it in this thread!

You need to be standing, smiling and waving your arms in the air like a loon!

Everyone who submits their picture will appear somewhere in the map... So everybody wins!

UberMensch very kindly sorted us out an IRC Channel for Jailbreak. We had one ages ago, but noone ever came to talk to us, and the damn thing kept expiring. So, we're trying again! If you fancy loitering on our channel, and leering at us from time to time... Go here:

Members of the team will endeavour to hang around like bad smells, so feel free to come bug us for information about Jailbreak 0.5, and we'll be more than likely to leak exclusive stuff to you... Because we're like that. Especially Wills.

Two months and 23 days ago, I announced that the first Official Map Pack for Jailbreak: Source would be out in "the next week or so"... Well it turned out to be "or so"... But, at last, after months of testing, tweaking and hard work, the first Official Jailbreak Map Pack is out! Download it below:

One map, jbo_bridge is also the first map to include Objectives! Check out some of the lovely pictures below, and remember this is just a sample:

Gang War Winners!
In other news, congratulations to (.fire), winners of the first Jailbreak Gang War! The first Gang War was an amazing success, with some incredible moments, matches and memories... we're currently gearing up for Gang War II, which will be starting in two weeks time... so if you're in a clan, get signed up on our forums!

Posted by Wills on August 1, 2008 | Comments [11]

You won't have noticed, but this evening I've been busy updating our website with some nifty new features, courtesy of the ever wonderful Blink from Interlopers.net!

What's changed? Well, instead of the website being programmed in frustrating and fiddly HTML, pretty much the whole thing is now PHP and integrated with the forums. Now, when we post a News Item in the Latest News forum, it appears on our front page... With integrated comments and everything! I know, I know, we're a good three years behind everyone else... But it's still nifty!

Press Page:
I've also added a Press Page, linking to all the articles, videos and interviews written, recorded and pieced together by the kind people of the Press, so you can all see what other people have to say about our lovely mod!

The Gang Wars:
Finally, a little update for you guys... In the coming weeks we'll be releasing another rather nifty little feature... which is actually a rather huge and complex addition to the site. Dogmeat has been busy creating a complete Gang Management system currently called "Match Maker". It will be a centralised web portal, allowing all the gangs to schedule matches, recieve e-mail reminders, create Gang profiles, challenge other gangs, book the server and update the ladder based on the matches that take place! It's going to be great, so look out for it soon!

Lots of people have been asking when we'll be releasing a patch / hotfix for Jailbreak: Source 0.4. We know how much the exploits are upsetting the dedicated players so the good news is, we've fixed everything that's been reported, and added some new features too! All we need to do is test it and make sure its stable before sending it out to you guys! Here's a brief idea of what you can expect:

- Dynamic scoring, awarded points based on targets points
- New dynamic radio macros: "IZaNaGI! Cover Me!"
- Auto Weapon Switch now optional
- New and updated sounds for some weapons
- Grenade Exploit FIXED
- Woodneck re-balanced
- Increased jump height to help with escaping and jumping on players

In other news, the Jailbreak Tournament got underway this week, with the first match taking place last night: The Devs vs Connway's Team. The Dev's claimed a hard fought victory in a very close run match! All in all the evening was a great example of teamwork and cooperation making the mod an absolute blast to play! Here's a few pictures from the night, along with a couple of shots taken on the servers!

Posted by Wills on May 22, 2008 | Comments [33]

Well! It's about damn time we got round to updating the mapping guide, so last night, Wills stayed up till the wee hours and did so! We've created a full mapping guide for all the entities in 0.4, alongside a complete example VMF file, and included it all inside two choices of ZIP, one contains just the FGD etc and all the w_models needed to map, the other contains ALL the textures and models we have created for Jailbreak: Source 0.4! Why were they not included in the release you ask? Because Wills cocked up, meaning we had to Pakrat all our custom files into the BSPs!

Download Textures and Models!
Moving swiftly along, you can download any of the packs from the following locations:

news post image Jailbreak FGD Only

Custom Maps!
Jaibreak seems to have really inspired people to get mapping, as we now have 14 (FOURTEEN!) custom maps, either finished or about to be released in the next week or so... So to keep everyone happy, we're going to bundle them all up into one easy ZIP file, and release it as an Official Map Pack in a week or two's time! We'll be running two servers with all the custom maps in rotation too! Here's a few samples of what you can look forward to!

More Events!
We've had three successful Steam Events this week all taking place on the Official Servers, two Teamwork Nights (Amazing fun! Two full servers running teamwork games for three hours straight!) and a Developer Night, which saw many questions answered whilst we got shot at by the fans! Anyhow, the people demand more! So we shall be organising more events in the weeks to come so to join in, join the Jailbreak Steam Group! Here's a few shots from the nights plus some great community taken shots!

Oh and P.S. We're already hard at work on the patch for 0.4, and the next full release... 0.5! Keep an eye on the site for more updates soon!

Posted by Wills on May 9, 2008 | Comments [2]

Well! The release of Jailbreak 0.4 has been a huge success with plenty of servers, and plenty of players! We'd just like to take this opportunity to thank all the people hosting servers and all the players for downloading! The feedback has been great so far, with plenty of good suggestions for 0.5! So thank you!

I'd also like to personally thank UberMensch, for hosting the Official Servers and sorting out so many issues and cool features for us! He's an absolute legend!

Server Patch
We're releasing a server patch today for the server admins to install, it fixes several crashes and stabilises the game a little more, and it also adds Lockdown Mode: After X minutes (set by the server), the round goes into Lockdown, meaning the release buttons are deactivated, but you can still escape...

- Jailbreak 0.4 Server Patch (ZIP - 8.88mb)

This should stop the really long rounds occuring! You only need to download this if you're running a server. Clients don't require it.

Teamwork Events!
Last night we held the first Jailbreak Event! It was Teamwork Night, and it was fantastic! A big thanks to all those who turned up! The concept was simple: Join if you enjoy working as a team! Everyone who played was awesome, moving as a well-oiled team, covering each other, providing medical assistance, creating devastating ambushes, and pushing backwards and forwards through the map as needed. No man was left behind! We'll be running some more teamwork events soon, so join our Steam Group if you want to come play with us!

Tournament!
Next week we're starting a 5vs5 Jailbreak Tournament, so far we have three teams raring to go, so get signed up in this forum thread, and join in the action!

Last bits!
We're setting up a Server Forum today, for you to report abuse, make suggestions, grab an admin, or just help out! So look out for it! Jailbreak seems to have caught the imagination of mappers all over, with two custom maps already finished the DAY after release! So far there are around eight or nine custom maps in the finishing stages, and a few older ones being updated to 0.4, so next week we're going to release a Map Pack including them all! If you want to help beta test the maps or just play them, our very own Dedifrag server is running the newest builds as they become available, so just join the server and download it from there!

All you patient Jailbreak fans are in for a treat! We are officially releasing Jailbreak Source 0.4 TOMORROW!!

We have between 8 and 10 servers lined up for release, in different places around the world, so you should be able to find a good game wherever you are!

ModDB's Stenchy and Henley have interviewed two of the Jailbreak Team (Wills and Dogmeat) about the forthcoming release of Jailbreak 0.4! The interview itself starts at 34:30.

http://www.moddb.com/mods/8680/jailbreak/features/27573/modcast-episode-4

It was great fun recording this interview and is a good laugh to listen to, with us explaining the new features, maps and art, along with revealing our plans for Jailbreak 0.5, whilst name checking a few of our beta testers!

Henley from ModDB has written a preview of Jailbreak 0.4! And it's insanely positive! You can read the whole thing here: ModDB Review! And as a special present, we can finally reveal... The Jailbreak 0.4 Trailer!

ModDB Preview:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/8680/jailbrea ... 04-preview

Trailer:
http://www.moddb.com/mods/8680/jailbreak/videos

Here's a little extract from the preview:
You’re out on the battlefield, you’re dodging RPG’s and bullets trying to flank the enemy and take them by surprise, they were two steps ahead and you find yourself trapped in jail. The clock is ticking you don’t have too much time to run through the crazy mazes of lasers, air vents, and deadly gas. With this high pressure situation creates an urgency that most games lack, it’s both refreshing and engaging enough that there's never a dull moment. Team work is needed but it's not forcefed to you like many games/mods are striving for today.

Last week, we did an interview with Blink from Interlopers, and it was awesome! It's brought us a whole new bunch of fans and a handful of beta testers (including Blink himself!) We also gave Interlopers a whole bunch of lovely screenshots and weapons for them to show off, and now a week's gone by, we thought we'd post them here, in case you missed them!

As you can see, there's a couple of new weapons in there! The Medigun is our favourite though. Every member of your team carries one, and using it, you can top up
each other's health, either after escaping, or after an epic firefight! You can also see the silenced pistol, the railgun scope and the crossbow above!

The ever-awesome Blink over at Interlopers.net has conducted an immensely fun interview with us over the last week, and we've been gnashing at the bit to tell you all about it... but rather than spoiling the whole thing, we figured we'd wait until it was done! And now it is!!

Apparently I can spawn in jail with a weapon? Explain this lunacy!"

Wills: You can indeed! The "Concealed Weapon" perk allows you to spawn in jail with a silenced pistol. One of the chief concerns about Jailbreak 0.3 was the amount of inmate killing. Unmoralistic guards would stand outside the jail bars and shoot defenceless inmates for fun (and until we patched it, frags). Although frustrating for some players, we found this hilariously funny... We didn't want to simply block all bullets from entering jails... So we decided that inmates should be allowed to fight back!"

So today, we finally reveal one of the new core features of Jailbreak 0.4, and it's something we're quite proud of! Below you will find six new pictures from last nights beta test, one of which shows off the custom perks selection screen... Look out for the new Rebel Rifle and Rebel SMG too!

Again, for the final week, please be aware that the HUD is still in a temporary state and is being finished up for next week!

news post image news post image news post image

So what exactly are perks all about? The concept is simple: You earn points, as explained last week, and using these points you can buy one of twelve perks, combining these perks together creates a custom class... So, you wanna be an double jumping medic? You can! Invisible and accurate heavy weapons guy? Check. Want to spawn in Jail with a weapon? No problem.

Balance issues you say? Each perk is seperated into levels, only attainable by gaining more points, and only one perk is allowed per level. Alongside this each perk is balanced to provide a defence or offence against another perk. So if the enemy team are using Stealth; buy Awareness and you can see them! Problem solved.

The countdown to the release of Jailbreak 0.4 continues today with six new in game shots of Iridium, once again from our Wednesday night beta test. You can also see three more of our new weapons; the Combine Pistol, the Railgun (!) and the Non-Propelling Matter Transport Device (!?).

Again, please be aware that the HUD is still in a temporary state and is being finished up as we write!

This week we're also revealing one of the new core features: Point Scoring! Aswell as frags for kills, players now recieve points based on their actions during the round. If you're a natural defender, you'll recieve bonus points for fragging enemies near the release button. If you're a talented escape artist, then you'll get points for breaking out! Likewise, releasing your team mates earns you a point per team member jailed!

The team can also recieve round bonuses for impressive feats, such as the whole of your team avoiding jail for the entire round. There's many, many more ways to gain points, meaning that it doesn't matter if you're no good at shooting straight, just play as the role you're most comfortable within your team and earn points for doing so! Next week, you'll find out what you can spend these points on...

Today we begin the final countdown to the release of Jailbreak 0.4! But! We're not going to tell you how long that is just yet, suffice to say, it won't be long!

To kick this off, we've released six pictures taken during the awesome beta test last night. Please be aware that the HUD is currently temporary and is being developed as we write!

So here's hoping Santa brings you lots of nice gaming pressies! (Just don't forget about Jailbreak whilst you're playing the Orange Box/Crysis/UT3!)

Due to a somewhat large mistake, a mass e-mail went out today to all our forum members. This email contained a link to the current build of Jailbreak 0.4. Fortunately we found out very swiftly, and were able to change the link and send out a second email explaining things!

So, if you were one of the lucky few to download the current build of Jailbreak, feel free to try it out and post some comments on our forums, we'd love to hear what you have to say, and also, feel free to come test with us... but PLEASE don't upload it anywhere and start distributing it!

The current version has the majority of our new features, maps, models, textures etc in it, but it IS buggy and we've still got a LOT of work to do! So this isn't a good representation of our final product... but it IS FREAKING AWESOME right now!

So yes, feel lucky if you have it, but please don't leak it any further, we love you Jailbreak fans, we wouldn't like to see our hardwork get out of hands!

That's right... Saturday's are no longer called Saturday's, they're called Jailbreakday's! OK, daft joke over. Jailbreak Game Night is back by popular demand, and conviently as stated below we have a lovely server to play on (provided by UberMensch from The Shady's), so tonight from 7pm GMT (UK Time), Game Nights will start all over again! Every Saturday from now on till the release of Jailbreak 0.4 will be Game Night, and us JB Dev types will try to make it too.

Your best bet to keep track of game night and play with as many people as possible, is to join our Jailbreak Steam Community.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Posted by Wills on December 15, 2007 | Comments [13]

"Well this is rather nice! A chap called UberMensch has put up a very powerful 16 player server for Jailbreak! I've been getting a lot of e-mails recently from people complaining that they'd downloaded our mod, but had no-one to play with and nowhere to play! Well, from now on, despite the fact that we should be trying to get on with releasing Jailbreak 0.4, we're going to try and re-introduce Game Night!

Jailbreak is mad fun, and is even better on a full server, especially one as lag free and fast as this one, so go join the server (named JailbreakSource.com - Official Server) and get playing... once we figure it out, we'll put up the dates and times that Game Nights will be taking place on, but to be absolutely sure you don't miss one, join our Jailbreak Steam Community to get announcements and reminders straight to your desktop!"

Yay! Now let's hope the bug that makes it impossible to join the server get's fixed soon :/

Hi all!

I've been looking around Jailbreak: Source for a few hours now, and it seems pretty cool. One thing though, are these game nights still going on?

JBS's problem seems to be servers. If I were to put up a dedicated 24/7 server (UK/100mbps), would people be happy to help keep it active?

I'll be getting my community involved too, so hopefully you'll get a few more players!

If anyone's interested, let's have yer thoughts ;)

Good day to all you Jailbreakers! I just wanted to post a quick message to say "We aten't dead!".

We apologise for the almost complete news blackout recently, but its for a reason! We've been working absurdly hard to bring you the next version of Jailbreak, so hard in fact, that despite the next version being called "Jailbreak 0.4", it's really "Jailbreak 0.8" as we've ended up bunging nearly all the planned future features into this one!

Beta testing has been going extremely well, with the majority of the features in and functional, and all eight of the maps finished and going through the tweaking stage. We've also been reworking some of the original four maps to bring them inline with the quality of the new four.

Weapons wise, we've completed half of them and the other half are being worked on right now! We've got a new HUD, all new sounds, all new graphics... It's almost a whole new mod!

So... why no media? Well... our plan is to wait until we have an 95% complete version of the mod and then start releasing the media in stages leading up to the release, to ensure that we get maximum exposure and effect! So within a few weeks we will start releasing media updates on a weekly basis. So, we apologise for the blackout, but that will all end soon!

Finally.. WE NEED MORE BETA TESTERS! So if you are up for joining the beta team, and checking out all the new features right now! Then express an interest on the forums or PM / E-Mail the team! We beta test every Wednesday from 7:30PM GMT. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Today we continue the build up to the release of Jailbreak 0.4 with four new pictures from IZaNaGI's new map, Iridium. The map is set on space-ship, in the middle of an epic space battle, with the damaged ship under attack from Combine forces as the Rebels attempt to regain control.

news post image news post image

So what's different about this map you ask? An entirely new game mode, that's what! Instead of straight forward Jailbreak, this new map revolves around rescuing your teams VIP. At the start of each round, one team member is randomly selected from each team and placed in Jail, the goal of the map is to break that team member out of jail, and return them safely to the rescue zone.

The round is won either by rescuing your VIP or by jailing the entire opposing team. The VIPs can only use miminal weaponry, and are extremely vulnerable to attack, so once they are out, they need a full bodyguard unit to bring them back safely. And yes, the VIP can escape jail all by themselves!

It has begun... Today we start the build up to Jailbreak 0.4, and to kick things off we bring you four new shots of one of the new 0.4 maps... Plague.

Plague is set in an Elizabethan period town somewhere in England, recently struck by The Black Plague. The map includes a theatre, and old church, a castle and an asylum, with many enterable buildings, and plenty of scares to keep you on your toes... trust us, escaping from the asylum will be as scary as it is difficult!

news post image news post image

Beta testing of Jailbreak 0.4 has now begun, and if you're a beta tester (join up on our forums) you'll know just how different 0.4 will be from 0.3... to that end we've decided to start drip feeding information to our fans, explaining a new aspect of 0.4 each week up until release. So this week: Point Scoring.

In the next release we have implemented a complete new point scoring system... no longer will simply killing the enemy gain you maximum points, you need to be good at Jailbreak to win! For example: Escaping from jail will give you bonus points, conversely, as a member of the enemy team, stopping players escaping jail will give you bonus points. Enjoy defending the release button? Well now you can gain points for that too! Kill an enemy player about to hit your release switch and its points heaven for you. There's also rewards for avoiding executions, speed bonuses, staying out jail bonuses and a whole host more. The base concept is to reward players who choose to engage fully in the Jailbreak gaming experience.

Stick around, because pretty soon... we'll be telling you what you can do with those points! Look out for shots of IZaNaGI's new map "Iridium" too!
