 Mapper's Block
How do you fix it?! There always seems to come a point no matter how much I've pre planned things, were I don't know how to progress. Recently looked back on a tf2 map I started a while ago and never finished. Thinking about going back to it but I know I'll look at it and not know what to do! I'm all set planning the main areas, considering gameplay aspects and so on. Yet I *always* get stuck with the outskirts, where I'm free to create anything. The non player areas and the skybox where you can go map crazy and make it super pretty. THERE IS TOO MANY OPTIONS!!! Anyway, what do you guys do when you get mapper's block?

I have it every second day, and the previous day of that day.

 Re: Mapper's Block
I usually do other things instead, come back to the map later. Take a break from mapping, etc.
Or I just think a lot about what to do and do it while listening to music.

 Re: Mapper's Block
reference imagery helps me, most of the time. Except when it makes me go berserk and try to replicate it exactly, which usually helps less...

 Re: Mapper's Block
Well I've taken a break of many months from it, I always use reference images to start with, so the majority of the current map is from images. Fitting other images around it has proven difficult lol. I dunno I guess I'll just have to keep spending a bit of time here and there thinking about it until something clicks.

 Re: Mapper's Block
Happened to me tons of times, never managed to fix it. Good luck finding a cure.

 Re: Mapper's Block

 Re: Mapper's Block
Well I don't know I'm pretty particular about things, if you think you won't get frustrated with me knocking down ideas ... sure Trouble is almost anything could go in the space I need to fill, yet I need to still think about gameplay aspects. I have some old screenshots and stuff or I could upload the map to my ftp. The good news is most of the core structure is done. Will probably need tweaking gameplay wise but I can't assess that just yet. Don't worry about it too much I'll think of something eventually but if you really feel like sinking your teeth into some tf2 mapping let me know.

I have been frustrated with you so many times that I have become immune.

 Re: Mapper's Block
I'd like to see some screen grabs from your map. You never know, some suggestions might be made that inspire you, it can't hurt if you're already completely stuck I have never considered mapping for tf2, you've got me thinking now ^^

 Re: Mapper's Block
*edit*
Once I've past this stumbling block I will need help with other things, mostly models. Biggest being the roof for the buildings, it's a kind of a shape I can't replicate in hammer. Possibly some custom textures as well but that's a long way off for now!

 Re: Mapper's Block
Pretty hard to see without textures, but those poles are going to be a roofed bridge thing? You could make an extension of that reaching the other path and base on that.
